How Deep is Hole For Wrought Iron Fence Installation?

A wrought iron fence is a popular option for homeowners because it’s both durable and stylish. It can be used to protect property lines, secure driveways, and other areas of your home, and it’s also available in a wide range of classic ornamental designs that can add value and style to your property.

Wrought iron fences are often very expensive, so if you’re considering installing one on your property, you should consider a few factors before making the final decision. For instance, you should factor in the cost of materials, the labor involved to install it, and the type of wrought iron fencing you want.

Choosing a Thickness for Your Fence

If you’re considering buying wrought iron fence panels, you should know that the thinner the fence is, the more it will be cheaper to buy and install. However, a thicker wrought iron fence is likely to be more durable and stronger. Talk with your contractor or material supplier about what gauge of metal would best suit your needs and budget.

Drilling for Fence Posts

If your wrought iron fence will be supported by posts, you should dig holes for them in advance. Use a post-hole digger to excavate these holes at least 6 inches deep and 2 feet apart along your fence installation line, but it’s best to make the holes 8 inches wide and as deep as possible to maximize strength and stability.

Next, drill bolt holes through new fence posts at appropriate heights to provide support for the wrought iron sections that will go on top of them. You should use 3/8”-diameter bolts, which you’ll be able to purchase from your local hardware store. For strength and appropriate length, you’ll need to purchase several sets of these bolts.

Once all the holes are drilled, you can attach the wrought iron fence sections to the posts using the bolts and screws that come with the fencing kit. This can be a fairly straightforward process, though you’ll probably need at least two people to complete it.

After all the fence panels are attached, you can hang gates from them using the hinges and latches that came with the kit. This should be a relatively simple task, but it can take some time to do so since wrought iron panels tend to settle after being installed.

Check for Scratches or Rust

If your wrought iron fence is exposed to the elements, you should give it a thorough inspection every year. Then, you can either scrape away any dirt or rust with a wire brush or repaint it to keep it looking its best.

Whether you choose a wrought iron or aluminum fence, you’ll need to keep it clean and free from dirt and other debris that can harm it. This is important for keeping it looking good and preventing it from rusting, which can cause it to deteriorate quickly.

Wrought iron isn’t a very easy fence to maintain, but if you take care of it, it will last for many years to come. The best way to keep your wrought iron fence in good shape is to wash it regularly with a mixture of warm water and dish soap. Don’t use a harsh, abrasive cleaner as this may damage the fence.
