Cinder blocks are an inexpensive material that can stand many types of weather conditions. They are also a very versatile choice for a fence. However, they are not always easy to work with, so you may want to consider hiring a professional to help you with the project.

Choosing the right fencing for your property can be stressful, especially when you have to consider the cost and maintenance. You will also need to consider your neighbors’ opinion and the security of the fencing, among other things.

It is best to opt for fencing that will last longer and require less maintenance than a regular wood fence, which can be prone to termites. This is because termites are opportunistic creatures that can quickly spread from the ground to the inside of the fence and eat away at it, eventually destroying the structure.

Another option is a masonry wall, which can come in various variations. The most common is slumpstone block, but it can also be worked into sophisticated patterns.

This type of wall costs $35 to $46 per foot. It is available in several colors, but it may require more maintenance than a regular fence.

In addition, a masonry wall requires more skill to install than a simple wood fence. It will be harder to turn corners and it can be more difficult to keep the wall level.

Lastly, masonry walls can be very expensive to install, and they can take several days to build. This is why they are not recommended for DIYers who do not have the time or the patience to complete the project.

How to Build a Cinder Block and Wood Fence?

The first step in building a cinder block and wood fence is to set up a base for the wall. This will ensure that the wall is level and doesn’t bow or sag. The base should be made from a concrete mix that will ensure the blocks stick together permanently.

After setting up the base, you will need to start laying down the cinder blocks. This is a tedious process, but it will get easier with practice.

Once you have finished laying the cinder blocks, add the mortar. The mortar will strengthen the wall and provide a foundation for the fence posts. It is best to use a preblended type of masonry mortar like QUIKRETE(r) Mason Mix Type S, which offers excellent bond strength and long-lasting performance.

Place the first course of fence post blocks on each pile and/or on a mortar bed, and check for level in all directions and in a straight line from pile to pile. If needed, shim the fence post blocks to adjust their elevation as necessary. Once they are leveled, stack a second course of fence post blocks on each pile.
