Choosing the Right Fencing Material
A wood fence is one of the most common types of fencing in North America. It is also a very practical option because it provides privacy, security, and a nice aesthetic for your home or business.
The right fence material for your yard depends on the size and shape of your property. If you have a large lot, you should consider metal or steel fences, as these are more durable than wooden posts. If you have a smaller lot, a wood fence is an ideal choice for your yard.
How to Install a Wrought Iron Fence?
Before you can start installing a wrought iron fence, you need to prepare your property for it. This includes clearing areas around the perimeter of your property and making sure there are no obstacles that could interfere with the construction process. You should also remove any debris, such as old leaves and branches, that might obstruct your new fencing.
You should also check the soil condition of your property and determine if it is suitable for building a wrought iron fence. It is not recommended to install a fence in sandy, compacted, or wet soils.
Mark the Areas to Dig Post Holes
The easiest way to measure where your fence posts should go is to spray paint large Xs along your line of fencing at intervals that are equal to the width of your fence panels (usually 8 feet). This helps you remember the location and will be a good reference point as you dig holes.
Once you have marked all the locations, use a post-hole digger to dig holes that are about 6 inches in diameter and 2 feet deep at each location. Add about 2 inches of gravel to each post hole before you pour concrete into it.
To make the installation of your wrought iron fence easier, you can either mount the wood fence panel directly to the post or use mounting brackets. If you want to use mounting brackets, make sure you pre-drill the holes in your fence panels so you can easily screw them into the post.
If you choose to mount your wood fence panel directly to the post, be sure to use metal screws that have been drilled into the post itself. This will save you a lot of time and hassle.
Using a Wire to Secure the Post
Once the fence panels are attached to the post, you can attach a wire across the top of the post and into the fence panel to help keep it from falling down or swinging sideways. You can use a piece of heavy-duty wire or even a u-channel. It is best to use a piece of wire that is not too thick as it might rip or tear when you twist it.
