How to Install a Vinyl Fence Post?

One of the most time-consuming tasks is digging a hole. You can use a shovel, an auger, or a post hole digger. It is important to keep your tools a distance from utility lines. Also, you should not attempt to drill into bedrock. A better option is to use a pneumatic post pounder.

When choosing the best way to install a vinyl fence, you must first consider your own unique circumstances. This includes your property, design, and deed. Although the manufacturer might offer some guidelines, you will still need to make sure you follow the right steps.

First, measure the length and height of the new fence. For example, if you plan to put up a 6×6 post, you will need to cut the length to 10 feet. Once you have the dimensions of the fence, you can start measuring the pieces. The width of the rails should be at least 12 inches wide. In addition, you should measure the space between the fence posts. After you have measured and marked the posts, you can begin drilling.

The most important aspect of this process is to ensure that you place the posts in the correct order. If you have a sloped yard, the pickets should be added vertically. Otherwise, you may have to create elongated notches in the fence lines to ensure that they line up. Using a power augur to do this can save a lot of time and frustration.

The other important step in installing a vinyl fence is to properly securing each fence post. To do this, you will need to secure each end with 1.5 inch screws. While you are at it, you will also want to install a brace or two, either on stakes in the ground or clamped to the post. Before you can attach the rails and braces, however, you will need to re-level the post with a trough of cement.

The best way to do this is to use a 1/8″ drill bit. Depending on the length and thickness of your posts, you may need to drill holes up to 3/4″ deep. You should also coat each post with primer.

Finally, it is important to know how to wrap a cap. This is usually done by starting at the top of the post and bending it over to the bottom. As you do, try to stretch the slender end to a 45-degree angle. This will prevent the vinyl from cracking.

Having installed the vinyl fence post, you can now go about the business of installing the rest of the fence. While it may seem like a daunting task, it is actually easier than you think.
