The first step to making a wrought iron fence is choosing the style you want. You can choose from many different styles to match the look of your home.

Once you have decided on a design, it is time to get your materials together. You will need fence posts, fence panels, gates, fasteners and other materials. These can be purchased at your local hardware store or online.

Depending on the size and style of your fence, you may need to hire a professional to do the work for you. Once you have the fence installed, you will need to keep it in good shape and take care of it.

You will need to clean the rust off of your wrought iron fence before painting it. This is very important as rust can cause your fence to become dangerous and deteriorate quickly.

To clean a wrought iron fence, you will need to use coarse grit sandpaper. This is the best option because it will be able to get rid of most of the rust that has already built up on the metal.

After sanding the wrought iron, you will need to scrub it. You can use a wire brush or you can use a scraper to remove the rust and paint that is on the metal.

Once the rust has been removed, you will need to prime the fence. This will give it a better surface and make it easier to paint. This will also protect the paint from rusting.

The primer will also make it easier for you to apply the paint without smearing it all over your house or yard. You should start this process early in the morning and plan on working for a day or two to get all of the fences painted.

Adding Posts

Once you have the fence panels ready and you have your wrought iron posts, you need to set them up. This will include digging holes at corners, ending points and on either side of each fence panel. These holes should be about 6 inches wide and about 2 feet deep. Filling the bottom of the hole with gravel helps to prevent water from getting in.

Installing Your Fence

Once your fence is up and you have all of the posts in place, it’s time to start attaching them to each other. This is a very easy process and will take about an hour or so.

Next, you will need to install the railings on the posts and attach them to the fence panels. This can be done with the help of a drill and a hammer.

Once you have finished, the wrought iron fence will be in place. You can now add more flowers and shrubs to your garden or hardscaping in the area around the fence.
