How to Put Up a Chain Link Fence?

Putting up a chain link fence is a relatively simple project. It is also a fairly low cost option. You can choose from many different colors and styles. Although you don’t have a lot of privacy, a chain link fence can be a great way to add greenery to your property.

If you are going to be installing your chain link fence yourself, you will need to have the necessary tools. These include a shovel, post-hole digger, wire cutter, and a level. You will also need to have a stretcher bar, tension bar, and tension wire. These components will help to hold the chain link mesh in place. They can also be woven through the bottom of the chain link mesh to make sure that it stays secure.

Once you have the tools you need, you will need to dig the holes. Line posts should be placed 4 inches to 6-inches deep, while corner posts should be 6-inches to 8 inches deep. If you are going to be installing your fence on a slope, you will also need to adjust the posts so that they slope gradually from one end to the other.

When digging your holes, you will need a helper. A helper can help to hold the fence posts while you fill the holes. If you are installing a fence in an industrial job site, you may need to add brace bands to hold the posts up. You may also need to use a pipe to slip under the loop cap to hold the post in place.

The tension bar is a vertical bar woven into the chain link mesh. It attaches the end post to the top rail. You can raise the tension bar a few inches above the ground if you need to. This adds rigidity to the chain link fabric. In addition, it can be removed after the fence is installed.

Before installing a chain link fence, you should determine how high your line posts will be. This is determined by how large your chain link fabric is. You should be able to use a hacksaw to cut the fence posts to the right size. However, you may need to trim the posts a bit. You can also raise them so that they are smooth on top.

Next, you will need to install the top rail. The top rail should be inserted through the line post top closest to the terminal post. This should be done in all stretches of the fence. You will also need to secure the top rail with a 5/16″ x 1-1/4″ carriage bolt. You may need to remove a wire from one end to make it fit.

When putting up your fence, you should also make sure that you leave two inches of space below the top rail. In order to do this, you will need to adjust the brace bands on the rail caps. You may also need to raise the tension bands on the bottom of the mesh.
